J GRGRY Speaks About Being An Independent Artist Ahead Of New Music This Week
Los Angeles based artist and multi-instrumentalist J GRGRY has enjoyed his career as both a singed and independent artist.
GRGRY who is now an independent artist speaks about some positives about being signed to a record label.
“I learnt a lot from my major record label time.”
“You are able to access the best audio equipment and instruments and for someone like myself who is obsessed with song writing, it’s all I think about.”
For a person who had recorded songs but not release them, he was dropped by the label.
“It was cool and exciting but when it fell apart, I was working long hard hours in the studio putting out music…”
“In just like 30 seconds, everything was removed, I didn’t have a car, food, it was like ‘You’re done’.” Said the artist.
Then back to life as an independent artist for J GRGRY it was.
“I free to [now] make my twitter bio less professional.” He said Laughing.
“Black Lives Matter is the number 1 important thing to me in the world,”
“I can say that feely without worrying about whoever might be in bed with what record label [might say].” He said.
The Queer artist has been independent for years now and has a supportive partner who also doubles as his manager.
“I love being an independent artist now, releasing my music on my own time frame,”
“I am really thankful that distribution companies like Ditto and CD baby really empower people who don’t have record label to push them,”
“You can actually get in front of people and get your music heard which is really exciting.”
The ‘Don’t Ever Give Up’ singer has garnered thousands of streams on Spotify for his uplifting music.
New Music
He aims to inspire and celebrate queer and marginalised people.
“As an artist you want people to know that you are working hard, but there are so many things that you can’t cover, and you need help.” He said speaking about ‘self-management.’
J GRGRY is dropping new music on Friday.
“It’s a love song about my husband,” He said blushing
“It’s a really special song, it is one I am most proud [of] and excited for people to hear.”
The song is called China Creek.
“I am 100% independent with nobody except for my husband to respond to, so we can release music everyday if we wanted to,”
“We just want to get more music out and show people that love is out there.”
The artist is also looking on releasing a Christmas single.
“I am really excited to release a song in December this year which is something I haven’t done before.”
J GRGRY will be releasing music every month until maybe a full body of work happens!
